Time, times and half a time: What does it mean? July 21, 2011

Whilst I claim to be no expert on eschatology I do sometimes like to raise questions concerning end time issues. The reason for this is not so much to confound the popular interpretations that abound but rather to highlight the fact that some of the more popular interpretations are not necessarily correct.

The question I would like to raise here then is whether the reference “a time, times and an half” in Dan 12:7 is really 3.5 years as many interpreters seem to think? It is important however to put the phrase in context before attempting to answer this question.

In Chapter 9 (Book of Daniel), Daniel makes clear that following the 70 year desolation which saw Israel exiled in Babylon, the city of Jerusalem was to be rebuilt again along with the temple leading up to the time of Messiah. Later in the chapter we are told that following Messiah’s departure (being cut off) the city and the sanctuary shall again be destroyed by a people that shall come. In Daniel 10 an angel in a vision appeared to Daniel again to tell Daniel what would become of his people in the latter days and the angel began his account from Chapter 11. In verse 22 of chapter 11 the angel makes reference to the same “prince of the covenant” who was previously mentioned in Daniel 9:26-27 so the events are related (interconnected). This is further confirmed by verse 31 where it is further mentioned that the prince shall pollute the sanctuary, take away the daily sacrifice and shall put in place the abomination which makes desolate. Chapter 11 therefore further explains the prophecy from Chapter 9. Chapter 12 again is a continuation of the explanations made in Chapter 11 by the angel concerning the future of the Israelites.

To further confirm that the prophesy is the one and the same, we note in  Dan 10:4-5 that Daniel was by the side of the river (Hiddekel) when the angel was explaining the vision and he was still by the side of the river in Dan 12:5-6 when the following question was asked:

 Dan 12:6

How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?

The end of the “wonders” here is referring to the end of the vision which is ended by the consummation of the world as described in the preceding verses in Daniel 12. The question that was being asked therefore was basically when will the end come?

The response by the angel was that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” Some have interpreted this phrase to mean 3.5 years (or 42 months or 1260 days) based on a similar reference in Revelation 12: 6, 14. It should be obvious though that from the time of Daniel’s vision through to the very end of the age could not possibly be 3.5 years. It would seem therefore that the “time, times, and an half” reference covers a very different span of time than what some interpreters previously thought. Recall that the angel said in Daniel 10:14 that “for yet the vision is for many days”. Clearly the angel left Daniel with a bit of a mystery and it is not solved by applying 3.5 years to it. Given that Daniel was told to shut the Book when he enquired of what should be the end of these things, emphasises the point that attempts to interpret these things amounts mostly to speculation.

Hello Henry,

Hope everything is and has been going well for you.
Without going into great detail, a time, times and a half a time or a time
(1 year), times (2 years) and half a time (half a year) has been and always will amount to 3 1/2 literal years. Daniel 9:27 establishes the last seven year period of seventy ‘sevens’ or seventy seven year periods, which was prophecied by the angel in Dan.9:24. Sixty-nine of those seven year periods were completed at the cruifixtion of Christ (The Annointed One will be cut off an have nothing). At the time of His crucixtion, God left off with the completion of those seventy ‘sevens’ of Israel, namely the fulfillment of that last seven year period and began to build his church, which is still on-going. Once the church has been completed, Jesus will then descend from heaven and will gather the church, dead and alive and they will be taken back to the Father’s house (1 Thes.4:16; 1 Cor.15:51; John 14;1-3). Once the resurrection and catching away of the church has taken place, then God will take up where he left off and begin the completion of that last seven years, the middle of which is the setting up of that abomination of desolation in the holy place within the temple. Daniel 7:25 is the counterpart to Rev.13:5-7 as can be seen below:

Daniel 7:25
“He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws. The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time.”

Rev.13:5-7
“The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blasphem God, and to slander his name and his dwellling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them.”

The time, times and half a time (3 1/2 years) that the beast oppressess the saints and who are handed over to him, is synonymous with the forty-two months (3 1/2 years) where the beast makes war and conquers the saints. The time, times and half a time and forty-two months are both speaking about the last 3 1/2 years of that last seven year period, which leads up to the Lord’s return at the end of the age.

This last 3 1/2 years is also synonymous with the 1,260 days that the woman (Israel) is cared for out in the desert as described in Rev.12:6 and the length of time for this same event is also described as a time, times and a half a time in Rev.12:14, both equaling 3 1/2 years.

So to recap, Scripture makes it clear that the last 3 1/2 years of that last seven year period is initiated by the setting up of the abomination of desolation (Dan.9:27), which begins the same time when the beast conquers the saints (Dan.7:25;Rev.13:5-7) and is the same length of time the woman/Israel is cared for out in the desert for 1,260 days, also referred to as a time, times and half a time, all equaling 3 1/2 years.

In closing, there is a good reason why a time, times and a half a time is interpreted as 3 1/2 years and that because both Daniel and Revelation support it as being so.

2. Henry - July 23, 2011

Don,
All is well with me at the moment thanks. Hope all is well with you too. With all due respect though, I see you have presented a lenghty response explaining why you think “time, times and half a time” are 3.5 years yet it seems you have conveniently avoided the specific context in which I presented my case above that the phrase might not mean 3.5 years. I am fully aware of all that you have presented already but when we take Daniel 12 into context it becomes apparent that 3.5 years does not fit.

Here are the verses from the NIV translation:

Dan 12
6 “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”

7The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time.b When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.”

So lets simplify this scenario. An angel is telling Daniel about a series of events and there are two others present. One asked the man in linen how long will it be before the end of these events come? The response was that “it will be for a time, times and half a time”. So in other words if we follow your interpretation we are saying that from the time of the vision till the end of the wonders be fullfilled will be 3.5 years. Please tell me if that makes sense to you?

And before you should say that the man in linen was referring to 3.5 years at the close of time, that will not wash with me. Why? If I asked you how long will it be till I get to the end of a particular journey and you told me it will be for 3.5miles (referring to the last 3.5miles at the end of an 100 mile journey) then this would not make any sense at all. So there is the crux of the problem. Let me say that I do not know what the “time, times and half a time” means but I know that in the context I presented it clearly cannot mean 3.5 years. Though I should point out that there is a footnote in the NIV version which suggests that it means 3.5 years.

3. Doug - July 26, 2011

Hello Henry,

I think we can be confident that the “a time, times and an half” in Dan 12:7 is not a literal three and a half years because the setting of the fourth beast in chapter 7, where that phrase is introduced, is the time of the Roman Empire, in which Christ came and established the church as that prophecy foretold.

The little horn appears among the other horns of the fourth beast, and actually uproots three of them, so it must have a rather long duration. It also makes war with the saints.

Dan. 12.7 indicates that it continues on to the end of the age. And the numbers Daniel gave at the end of the chapter, to represent the period, 1,290 days and 1,335 days, do not fit a literal three and a half years, in any calendar. Neither does the 1,260 days that were introduced by John.

The number of days in three and a half solar years is about 1,278 and if they are taken to be 42 lunar months, it is about 1,240 days. Add one embolistic month, it is 1,270 days. So, nothing works out to 1,335 days, or 1,290 days. This is solid proof, I think, they don’t represent a literal three and a half years, as you showed in your post. Bravo!

4. Henry - July 26, 2011

Hello Doug,

It is reassuring to know that I am not the only one who can see that the reference to “a time, times and half a time” cannot conceivably refer to a literal 3.5 years particularly in view of Dan 12:7. Why some interpreters insist that it is for 3.5 years is beyond me.

It is assumed that the reference is based on a “factor” of 3.5 but actually the factor implied in the phrase might actually be 2.5 as indicated by the Tanakh:

Daniel 12:7
7. And I heard the man clad in linen, who was above the waters of the river, and he raised his right hand and his left hand to the heavens, and he swore by the Life of the world, that in the time of [two] times and a half, and when they have ended shattering the strength of the holy people, all these will end. (see link)

http://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/16495/jewish/Chapter-12.htm

Some have concluded that time = 1000 years and therefore converted the reference to be 2500 years. Here is an example:
http://www.beholdthebeast.com/time_times_and_half.htm

I can’t say if this is true definition although the coincidences cannot be ignored.

5. Terry - September 8, 2012

This time period is described as a time, times and half a time, 1260 days, 42 months and three and a half years. With respect, it’s literalism to talk about lunar and solar years. The passages clearly talk about three and a half years. The question we should be asking is, does it have a literal or a symbolic meaning? Seeing as neither three and a half literal years or 1260 prophetic years, equally, don’t make good sense to me, I’m leaning to a symbolic meaning. I’m thinking perhaps the time, times and half a time refer to an “age.” An age where the witness of God is clothed in sackcloth. It’s covered up. Everyone is confused and deceived and deluded. All of us. “For three and a half days some from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial.” Rev 11.9. Do the bodies of the two witnesses, symbolism also, lie in the public square in Sodom and Egypt for three and a half days? Is this literal too? Or is it three and a half days, or years or thousands of years that they lie there? Fortunately it says a great enlightenment is going to occur after that. Boy, do we need it. The enlightenment might be about how literalistic we have all been in our approach to the Bible during the sackcloth period. That might be a part of it, I’m tipping. Fortunately it comes to an end and the two witnesses get some power in their message. How that will play out I’m not sure, no one is, but it sounds good.

6. Bobby Gilbert - October 29, 2012

Here is where I am. I would love if someone else sees this too. I see weeks as specific separate weeks. Each week is a week unto itself. Weeks have time counts of generations, years, months, weeks, hours, etc. There are 70 weeks. 7 refer directly to bible and is written so. 62 weeks are not exactly in bible. 1 week is the Great Tribulation. To simplify, one can look at the last week of the Lord’s life and look at the Week of the Tribulation. The Lord’s week had 7 days and 42 hours/42 hours. A day is 12 hours. The middle of the week is the cross. Betting on a middle of the week cross. It is not far fetched. The Tribulation is spelled out 7 years 42 months/42 months. The middle of the week is the mark of the beast. To understand a week, look at a crisis event. Crisis events are easiset to find. The cross, the mark of the beast, the death of rachel’s children, the flood, the passover, the fall of the temple 1st time. There should be seven in the word of God. A example of a 62 week out of the word of god is temple falling the second time. Each week begins with a promise or hope. The middle has a crisis. The end has a eternal event or event with eternal circumstances. Look at the Law or the Word of God . . . It was born out of the Passover. That is not looking at a time frame. The beginning of the week has something to do with Moses.

Times and Half Times . . . . week and half a week. There are/will be 70 separate weeks with different time counts. I would like to be told that I am wrong. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone as of yet who sees this. If you believe in the Rapture, you will not understand this. If you to understand rapture, then think on the donkey. I would say Rapture means betting on the donkey.

To understand beginning and end events, look at end events. You can’t put your finger on them. Think of Jesus. Think of the Law. You can’t hold them. In essence, they are difficult to really hold and touch. They are eternal events.

That said . . . Times and Half times are individual weeks with different time counts.

7. Henry - October 30, 2012

Bobby,
Thanks for dropping by. My own position on this subject is not to torture myself in trying to ascertain what these things mean. The key to this prophesy is in Dan 12:9. Daniel the prophet wanted to know what these things meant but the angel did not tell him. The angel said that the words are sealed till the time of the end. Why then should we speculate as to what it means?

8. Pastor Mark - January 5, 2013

I have to agree with Don up to a point on the meaning of “time, times and half a time”. It is referring to the final 3 1/2 years of Great Tribulation.

But…

Don McAlister. Have you considered the possibility that the rapture of the church is not until the end?

If we consider the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:29-31, ” And immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. (30) And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in the heavens. And then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of the heaven with power and great glory. (31) And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather His elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.”

This Jesus says takes place after the Abomination of Desolation Matthew 24:15, and Matthew 24:21, Jesus calls this the “great tribulation” here is that verse; “for then shall be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world to this time; no, nor ever shall be.”

If you noticed, in Matthew 24:31 that this is the same description given by Paul in
1 Corinthians 15:51-52; “Behold, I speak a mystery to you; we shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed; (52) in a moment, in a glance of an eye, at the last trumpet. For a trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed.”

1 Corinthians has always been understood as describing the rapture.

Jesus says it is to happen toward the end of the Great Tribulation.

Just thought I would point out a different timing of the return of Jesus Christ

9. mike - February 27, 2013

it really saddens me to see so many people grasping at straws when God is not the author of confusion. the true explanation is too lengthy to write out here. please read for yourself. I’ll give you a clue though; 30 days in a jewish month = 42 months x 30 days equals 1,260.
papal dominion as church and state was from 538ad to 1798ad. can you subtract?

satan doesn’t want you to know the truth and will harden your heart to reject it

10. Graham - June 3, 2013

Great discussion – here is my question – in Daniel 12.4 does the Angel tell Daniel to “keep this prophecy secret and seal up the book until the time of the end.” If this is what Daniel was told why do we even have the prophecy. I’m not trying to be flip – just trying to understand.

11. robert gilbert - July 14, 2013

to make it clearer and simpler seven weeks = 7
I am not giving explanations of these weeks. I have set some anchors to find the weeks. God weeks are revelations best understood as the feast of tabernacles. To get an understanding why you need to read John where Jesus goes to the feast of tabernacles at its half way mark. times and half times . . .

God weeks 1. creation, 2. ark, 3. temple, 4. jesus child, 5. passion week, 6. holy spirit, 7. second coming

Israel 62 weeks = 62

weeks have one worker or 12 workers/ 12 tribes . . . get an idea of who’s is getting paid

Joseph week = 1 worker = slave into egypt
Simeon week = 12 workers = the famine
Levi week = 12 workers = Passover
Judah week = 12 workers = Fall of the temple first time
Issachar week = 12 workers = fall of the temple second time
Zebulun week = 12 workers = Holocaust
Benjamin week = death of rachel children. time line begins at birth of abraham and ends some time soon. it’s finishing point is Israel. Israel is on the word to “emmaus”.

Adopted
Tribulation week = 1

7 + 62 + 1 = 70

There are actually only 14 weeks or 15 considering the adopted. The adopted go through the same week with the Holy Spirit.

Festival of weeks . . .

There is not a lot of math here, but there is a lot of biblical truth in understanding these weeks beginning with creation and then to cain . . . to cain’s son . . .

To understand weeks better with these names, you have to understand what happen shechem, leah’s children’s name in order

And why joseph . . . he replaced Reuben because of Reuben’s sin.

The prophecy goes back to what Joshua said about the oldest and the youngest after the fall of jericho. That is why joseph and benjamin and Jesus and the adopted. The oldest and the youngest . . .

If you look up the web, you find a lot of math. There is not a lot of math here.

what I am looking in this world is someone else who sees this. I have not written a book on this because it was given freely and I wrestle with the thought. I am not sure anyone would be interested in it because weeks have a format and Jesus does not rise at the beginning of the week, nor the middle . . . he rises at the end.

I have been looking for maybe messianic jews who may begin to understand this. it makes sense for them because they have completed their weeks.

Peace, Bobby

13. Fanie Olivier - September 29, 2013

Great debate , but for what purpose ? To try and place a calender date regarding the end of time on earth is nothing but a process of misinformation to further deceive the uninformed masses who generally spend very little time studying the Bible. Jesus Christ should be our guide , not some “church” movement who tries to prove a 3 and a half year period or 1260 years or whatever date line. FACT: Matthew 24:36 , Mark 13:32 (KJV) – Jesus said nobody will know the end of time , only the Heavenly Father knows. By implication , those who try and follow time periods connected to a time , times and a half , must be careful. You could be mislead by evil people/forces. It can also be viewed as a form of satanic fortune telling. People , please stop trying to torture yourselves regarding the issue , you are NOT going to know when the end will be , otherwise you will know more than Jesus Christ Himself by implication. Only the Devil thinks he knows more than God. Try and focus instead on being ready to actually be with Jesus in Eternal Life one day.

14. Henry - October 1, 2013

Fanie Olivier,

Thanks for stopping by. I fully agree with your sentiments. Any attempts to try and work out the date of Christ’s return is futile and I think this is what interpreters try to do by appointing a 7 year tribulation period and say Christ shall return at the end of the second half period of the 7 years Indeed many could be mislead by evil people because accordind to this doctrine they are waiting to see Israel sign a peace accord with the anti-christ for seven years. So if Israel signs such an accord with anyone the assumption will be that it is the antichrist and therefore the Christ’s coming will be immediately after the 7 years. Evil forces can indeed manipulate such an event to usher in a false Christ.

God bless.

I thank you all for such a greate discussion, putting an end to it because it will come to no avail, but i want to know more about lead a spiritual life thank you.

16. Henry - March 29, 2014

frank jones,
I am afraid that I have to unapprove your comment as it amounts to no more than suppositions that have no biblical support.

17. john - July 16, 2014

“Time, times and a half”, the “half” can also mean “part”.

Now refer this back to Dan 9:25 and you’ll see it.

Both are worded strangely so as to be linked together by this threefold, parallel division. First division is a standard in both (7 weeks/a time), 2nd a nonstandard larger time (60/times) and last is a smaller “part” of a time (2 weeks/an (half/part)). It’s the 69 weeks.

Someone may have already said this but I hope I’ll be forgiven for re-affirming if so.

Grace and peace in our Lord Jesus Christ.

John

18. Guillame - March 1, 2015

All of you are wrong though it has been humorous to see the wild ideas that still pervade biblical circles. The best way to understand the phrase is to read it like this, A Collection of Sevens, Two collections of Sevens and One Half a Collection of sevens. You can read your bible until you are blue in the face and you won’t be able to understand what this means. The reason is because it’s not in the bible. The answer is found in the Book of Enoch the 93rd chapter. I figured it out and it took me a very long time and much research to do it. If you are going to try, you need to know that a generation in Abrahams day was 100 years. I will even throw you another clue, a solar year has 365.24219 days in it. You will need to know that because everything will eventually need to be taken down to its lowest common denominator which is days.
I’m not giving you any more clues , yet! I want to see how bright some of you are. I will speculate on where and how this manner of timekeeping originated. The angels came down to earth in the days of Jared and were here until the flood. I don’t think man, beginning with Adam, knew how to write before the angels showed up. I think this was their method of timekeeping and Enoch being a highly intelligent man learned writing and timekeeping from them. Also, it’s the Book of Enoch translated by R.H.Charles as I understand there is more than one book of Enoch.
Here is something else that might help you. Back in Enochs day, which is sometimes referred to as the first temple era, the years were reckoned as having 12 months times 30 days which of course is only 360 days . From what I have been able to determine, some kind of festival was held every so often whereupon an extra day would be added in ever so often which would eventually correct up the days of a year so that it would equal 365.24219 days. To figure Enochs weeks you don’t need to know all that , just what a solar year is.
Now, if you happen to get that far and I may have died, here is something you need to know about Daniel and Revelation. When Daniel was receiving these revelations from the angel, he was still in the custody of the Babylonians. The Jewish scribes would disguise the numbers by multiplying them by a constant such as 1000 and then calling them something else. Only your Orthodox Jews will know this and they aren’t going to tell you. When you’ve finally got your math right, a collection of sevens in Enoch taken down to its smallest collection of days, will equal the amount of days in Johns week. Don’t forget the three and one half days the two witnesses lie dead. It has to be figured in.

19. Wendy - June 20, 2015

Rev. 12:6 mentions 1,260 days. Very specific. Rev. 12:14 mentions time, (singular value); times, (plural value); and 1/2 time (singular value). What is unknown here is the actual variable that pluralizes the value of times. It would be written like this: 1,260 = X + (y)X + 1/2X. What is the value of y? Can not be determined from this equation. If y = 8.5, then this equation means a time (or X) is equal to 126 days. If y = 3.5, then this equation means a time (X) is equal to 252 days. [252 + 252(3.5) + 126 = 1,260]. So unless we know the value of y, there is no way to determine the value of x.

20. EZ - July 8, 2015

Why not just let the Book of Daniel Interpret itself rather than go to a bunch of different places in the bible to try to find what is already made clear in Daniel. In the 4th chapter verse 25 Daniel speaks of Nebuchadnezzar, and says he was to be driven from men and made to eat grass for Seven “Times”, Clearly Nebuchadnezzar wasn’t punished for 2520 Years (7×360). Nebuchadnezzar says in the end of the Chapter in verse 34 that at the end of the days my understanding returned to me. Clearly the book of Daniel is telling us that a Time is equal to a year.

21. Henry - July 8, 2015

Ez,
Interesting point. So pray tell how many years equals to “times”? Some people already drew the conclusion that “time” equals 1 year and that “times” equal 2 years but that is a gross assumption. So even if “time” equals a year we do not know how many years are determined by “times”.

22. Victoria - July 19, 2015

The reason I am here, reading these theories are: I had an open vision on June 10 of this year. In the vision I saw a great large, glass floor. I walked up to a mans feet, all black, shoes and, only from his knee down. On this glass floor were the Word’s of God, The Bible. His left foot was on the word “time,” his right foot was on the word “times,” as I walked closer I saw at his right was the words, ” and half a time.” I was shaken to my core! For hours I was unable to speak. I saw the words and half a time very clearly, they drew up close to my face. I feel is was referring to the Revelation of John. I have had many end time dreams, but this was the first open vision I have had. I am still praying as to what God was showing me. God bless you all.

23. Guillame - July 29, 2015

OK Wendy, I am going to give you some clues because I like the way your mind works. It is working and EZ you just need to stay out of this conversation. Grownups are talking. Wendy, think of Daniel, Revelation, and Enoch as three separate writings. The only thing that Dan, and Rev. have in common is the phrase A Time, 2Times, 1/2 a Time. As I said before, a collection of sevens, two collections of sevens and a one half a collection of sevens. Since you have a math background, picture it like this. Degrees, Minutes and Seconds. I had a lot of stuff written and it occured to me you would never figure it out so I’m just going to tell you. Draw 7 boxes horz. and under each box draw 6 boxes vert. Divide each box with 7 across and 7 down. When you finish you are looking at a TIME. When you finish with that , take another sheet of paper and copy three of those blocks containing 49 little squares. In the third square, count, left to right, top to bottom, count 25 little squares and make a verticle dividing line in that square. You are looking at a Time, Times(plural) and 1/2 of a Time. You are now 2 years ahead of where you would have been without my time machine. How are you liking time travel so far? Thats how long it took me to figure that out. Now, Go to Enoch like I told you and forget about Rev. and Dan. for the time being. About once a month I’ll check back here and see how you are coming along. Man it’s hot.

frank jones - August 5, 2015

Simply stated..Time referres to the time before the Messiah Jesus..Times is the life of Jesus on earth and his teaching….!/2 times is the period which we live in trying to understand the differences between the old teachings and the teachings of our Savior Jesus…This is the tribulation of teachings….choose the spirit….

24. Guillame - August 11, 2015

Simply stated, some people just should not be allowed access to the internet FJ

25. Guillame - August 11, 2015

Wendy, here’s your formula :X = 49(49) + 2(49) + 0.5(49)
1 Time = X
Remember, Enoch and John are apples and oranges!

26. Guillame - August 30, 2015

OK OK I’ve gone back over what I’ve written and it’s starting to appear like the ranting’s of a mad man! When the writings were translated, the words A Time, and Times, and a Half Time , would have been better translated as A collection of sevens, Two collection’s of sevens and a half a collection of sevens. It’s what Rev. and Dan. have in common. It’s a locator on the timeline of humanity. A point in time that they both have in common.
Here’s a little bit about prophecies:
Isaiah would have end time visions intermingled with vision’s about the time He was living in. Hard to understand.
Daniels end time visions are explained by the angel for the most part until the angel starts explaining the war between the North and the South and then it turns into a movie!
Baruch assumes we understand Daniel’s writing’s and Jeramiahs writing’s but I think we are missing a lot of Jer. writings.
John is filling in a lot of the blank spots .
They are all different parts of the same story.
The thing they have in common is they are all about a certain point in time that is going to affect all of humanity. God thought it important enough to tell us about it shouldn’t we think it important enough to try and understand it.
Now I’ve really muddied up the waters.

Don Mcallister, according to Isbon T. Beckwith who wrote the book on eschatology, Eusibius is the one who came up with that 3 and 1/2 years idea back in the third or fourth century A.D. and it has been perpetuated since then. He was wrong then and he is still wrong.

Hey guys, it seems it could be 2.5, which matches what God told Daniel to seal and Ezra to Unseal. 59 Weeks.
I am not sure, but look at this and see if it relates to the 12th chapter of Revelations verse: 14.
Let me know……https://carm.org/second-esdras
It was just released to the two lost tribes of Israel on 08292015. We never even knew this book existed, but noone is figuring the timeline off of this book.

The real question is, is there anyone in history that has ruled harshly over the elect, changed times and laws, for the period of time mentioned (time, times, and half of time) If we interpret it as a long time, then the answer is yes, it is called the papacy, this could be why it was shut up until the end times. Isn’t the anti-Christ, the one who speaks pompous words about God, trying to be the sole interpreter of scripture, even above Jesus about the Word of God? (I thought this was why Jesus came, to better interpret the scriptures so that all could follow them in ones heart and not legalistically.) Didn’t the papacy change even those commandments that are written in stone, I don’t remember Jesus doing that? Isn’t it satan’s goal to rule over the elect, not just the world, and with Daniel and Revelations, we know that satan does do it, (for a time, times and half a time he does rule over the elect).
Why are we looking for someone else when the anti-Christ is already here trying to make everyone care more about the earth then the Creator (see pope Francis’s latest speech to Congress regarding global warming etc.) If Daniel’s prophecy is to be understood, we need to use everything in our arsenal to understand it. Even when we don’t like the answers we get when we study the Word with an open mind. If I am right, and others are still looking for someone else to fulfill Daniel, then they will never find the truth, then as it states in the end of the Bible, (Rev 15…There before the throne were standing a great multitude, dressed in white robes, singing before God, for they were singing the Song of Moses, the servant of God and singing the Song of the Lamb. For these are the ones who overcame the Beast, over his image and over the number of his name.) paraphrasing here

God’s been telling me “time, times and the dividing of time” for some time now. Over a year. Also, I’ve been hearing trumpets out of my left ear and I saw the abomination of desolation in the outer court of the temple (in the Spirit) about mid January 2013 – plus or minus a week. I’m recalling based off of other events that occurred in my life about that time. It’s soon!

When the restraining spirit is taken out of the way babylon will be on earth for a very long time before God raises up his prophet and ends babylon

All these comments and no one mentioned that it was measured from the destruction of the temple since the beginning of the commenting. But what I wanted to say is that the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that this adds up to the war starting in Heaven in 1914… really. If anyone looks up what they teach, I would be interested to read others reasoning on whether, or not, it makes sense to them. JW.org

The foregoing comments give evidence that a rich bouquet of meanings have been attached to the phrase “time, times, and half a time.” I would not argue against any of these interpretations, believing our Father has made it ambiguous so that each of us can find within the phrase that which suits us best. Eventually we will learn of His true intent. In the meantime, may I offer one more. I think the word “time” can also be translated as an era, in particular, the length of that era referenced in the seventy week prophecy – 490 years. Some refer to this era as the “meridian of time.” “Times” refers to the next era, the times of the gentiles. It lasted about four times the length of the previous era. Half a time refers to the time of the end (i.e. not of the world, but of the consumation or completion of the consequences of Israel’s rejection of the Messiah). Its duration should be half of the 490 years Furthermore, the chronological periods given in Daniel (490, 2300, 1290 and 1335) can also be interpreted as years measuring to special moments within each of these three eras or times. I’m sure there will be many objections to such an interpretation, and that is fine. Ambiguity does not require a single intention.
